Located in the heart of Miami Beach?s renowned Art Deco district, the Kent Hotel is just
one block west of the cobalt blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Originally built in the
1930?s by L. Murray Dixon who designed many of Miami?s now famous Art Deco buildings, the
Kent has in recent years been restored to all of the glamour and sassiness that the hotel
enjoyed during it?s early years.
Barbara Hulanicki who is well known for founding Biba clothing in the 1960?s worked her
magic over the entire property of the Kent. She treated the hotel like the rock stars she
had dressed in the past and gave the building an entirely fresh and funky look. From the
minute guests step into the lobby they will have a glimmer of what the Kent is all about.
Fun items such as silver beanbags, Lucite and colorful cubed furniture,
brushed steel ceiling fans, and disco balls can be found throughout the hotel. A stay at
the Kent is like stepping into Hulanicki?s own private Wonderland. The hotel is
conveniently located with-in walking distance to what has become known as paradise for art
lovers and shopping enthusiasts alike, the Lincoln Road Mall, as well as South Beach?s
infamous nightclub circuit.
Funky Living at the Kent
The Kent boasts 54 guestrooms, two of which are suites. The walls of each room are done in
a tranquil lilac color scheme that is accentuated by the blond wood flooring. Each room
has it?s own unique touches that are reminiscent of the funkiness that accompanied
furniture and design in the 1970?s. The most fantastic place to stay while visiting the
Kent has to be the 800-square foot Lucite Suite. Everything in this suite was designed
with Hulanicki?s vision in mind. Clear Lucite furniture and appliances
as well as metallic lamps that were popular in the 1950?s adorn each room. Clear feather
pillows even adorn the chairs.
Additional Amenities at the Kent
In addition to a television and VCR, each guestroom is also equipped with a CD player and
a selection of CDs. All rooms also feature telephones with voice mail, in-room safes, and
a fully stocked mini-bar. The staff is extremely efficient, multi-lingual and ready to
wait on guests hand and foot. A coffee cart in the lobby provides travelers with gourmet
coffee drinks and pastries to help kick start the day. A concierge is readily available to
point visitors in the direction of South Beach?s many points of interest. Professional
childcare service is also available. Exercise buffs can receive reduced rates at Crunch
Fitness and for those who enjoy the club scene, the Kent offers guests VIP passes to some
of Miami?s most infamous nightclubs.
The Beautiful Kent Garden
One of the hotel?s most original touches is the Kent Garden. This are is
filled with lush tropical plants and giant mirrors. The floor resembles a tranquil lake
and is the perfect place to enjoy yoga. This area is also ideal for cocktail parties and
corporate functions. The Hibiscus Room can accommodate up to 20 people and is perfect for
production and small meetings.
Location of the Kent Hotel
The Kent is located at 1131 Collins Avenue in walking distance of the beach and the hustle
and bustle of Ocean Avenue. The hotel is in within five miles of the Port of Miami, ten
miles of Miami International Airport and four miles from American Airlines Arena.
